Puerto Rico’s Native Tree Frog
The coquí is a type of tree frog native to Puerto Rico. Green, brown or yellow in color, these small frogs are known for their distinct call (“co-ki”), which can be heard all around the island and all throughout the year from dusk until dawn. The scientific name of the species is Eleutherodactylus, meaning "free toes" in Greek. It is the only frog in all of the Americas that has no tadpole stage. They go directly from egg to coquí.
Coquí-Inspired Rings
Coquí spend their nights in the forest canopy and shelter on the ground under rocks and logs and in gardens during the day. The common coquí has a long history of cultural significance in Puerto Rico, appearing in folklore and eventually becoming a widespread symbol of the island. At Coquí el Original®, our coquí designs immortalize this little frog's legacy in gorgeous sterling silver .925 and 14k yellow gold pieces. Gift yourself or a loved one our designer Coquí Ring in solid sterling silver .925. Coquí el Original® was created by Natalio Barquet Perez, a third generation jeweler in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Natalio was inspired by the coquí tree frog since it is an endemic species to the island. We have a saying “De aquí como el coquí,” which rhymes in Spanish and means “We are from here like the coquí is.”
Jewelry as Unique as You
Therefore, if you are Boricua, have special ties to the island, or have visited, this is a perfect ring to carry with you and have Puerto Rico always close to you. In the sterling silver Coquí Ring, we offer sizes 5, 6, 7, and 8. You can also choose between a matte or polished finish. You can create sets with these rings by purchasing pendants, bracelets, and earrings of the coquí in both silver and gold. We don't use plating or hollow pieces, and every product comes wrapped in nice packaging with an informational certificate.
